Dr. Greg DeNaeyer and Eric Marshall, our VP of Manufacturing & Lead Consultant, worked together to design the Europa Scleral lens. This design was the first 2nd generation product of a successful 1st generation lens (Jupiter). The growth and acceptance of our Europa lens was spectacular and now constitutes 85% of all Visionary Optics’ sales.
In 2010, less than a year after Dr. Breece’s death, the debt burden of Medlens Innovations became too heavy and the company ceased to exist; Visionary Optics was born with Dr. Sanders providing fresh capital.
The Scleral Lens Education Society was created. Our very own Dr. Greg DeNaeyer was a founding board member for this remarkable organization that continues to provide some of the best scleral lens education available.

Dr. Breece again asked Dr. Sanders to partner with him in Medlens Innovations. Dr. Breece’s untimely death occurred six months after they became partners; Dr. Sanders took over the struggling company.

Dr. Robert Breece designed and produced the first modern scleral lens design under the Company name of Medlens Innovations. Dr. Breece’s Jupiter design is the exact Jupiter design that Visionary Optics manufacturers and sells today.
Eric Marshall answered a local job ad for a R&D manufacturing company and began working evenings with Dr. Breece producing Ortho-K lenses for Correctech. Shortly after, we started manufacturing other specialty Soft and GP designs. After a few short years of manufacturing lenses, Dr. Breece started to share his knowledge of manufacturing, design and consulting.
Dr. Robert Breece and Dr. Donald Sanders partnered together to work on a new OrthoK design. The product was ahead of its time and the company encountered regulatory difficulties with the FDA and the company did not pursue approval of the lens.
